What is an On-grid Solar System?
An on-grid solar system, also known as a grid-tied or grid-connected system, generates electricity from sunlight and directs it to the connected loads in your home or business.
Because it is directly synchronized with the utility grid, it does not require expensive battery backups. If your solar panels generate more power than you are consuming, the excess electricity is automatically exported to the grid. If your panels generate less (like at night), you seamlessly import electricity from the grid.
Important Note
An on-grid system requires the reference voltage from the utility grid to operate. Therefore, for safety reasons (Anti-Islanding), the system will automatically shut down during a grid power cut.
What does an On-Grid Solar System Consist of?
A modern grid-tied system relies on four primary components to generate, convert, route, and measure your electricity.
Solar Panels
The core engine of the system. PV (Photovoltaic) modules absorb sunlight and convert it into Direct Current (DC) electricity. We use high-efficiency Bifacial or Topcon modules.
Grid-Tied Inverter
The brain of the system. It converts the raw DC electricity from the panels into Alternating Current (AC) electricity that matches the exact voltage and frequency of the utility grid.
Distribution Box
Safety first. The ACDB and DCDB contain surge protection devices (SPDs) and breakers to protect your inverter and home appliances from voltage fluctuations and lightning.
Bi-Directional Net Meter
Replaces your old meter. It spins forward when you import electricity from the grid, and spins backward when you export excess solar energy to the grid.
How Does it Work?
The seamless flow of energy from the sun, to your home, and back to the grid.
1. Sunlight to DC Power
Sunlight hits the solar panels on your roof, generating Direct Current (DC) electricity.
2. Conversion to AC
The DC electricity flows into the Grid-Tied Inverter, which converts it into usable Alternating Current (AC) electricity.
3. Powering Your Home
The AC electricity is routed through your distribution box directly to your home appliances (ACs, Fridge, Lights) for immediate consumption.
4. Net Metering & Grid Export
If you generate excess power, it is exported to the grid through the Net Meter. Your electricity provider credits your account for this power.
